Membership Requirements

The following is a list of requirements for any person applying for membership into Local 481:

  1. You must be of good moral character and reputation
  2. You must have been a resident within the jurisdiction of the Local for at least 18 months immediately preceding the application. IATSE Local 481’s jurisdiction covers Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, and Vermont. The Executive Board along with the approval of the International, may waive the18 months residency requirement.
  3. You must have a minimum of 30 days of work in the craft in which you are applying or that is related to the craft in which you are applying.
  4. You must be of legal age to engage in gainful occupation within the jurisdiction of the Local.

IMPORTANT: If you have NOT lived within Local 481 jurisdiction for 18 months, you must request a waiver from the Executive Board in writing with the application. A letter requesting the waiver must accompany your application and must:

  1. Ask permission to waive the 18 month residency requirement;
  2. State that your principle residence is the address within Local 481 jurisdiction that appears on your application; and
  3. Explain your reasons for moving to the jurisdiction and your intentions for staying.

The waiver is subject to the approval of the Executive Board. Your sponsor will be asked to appear before the Executive Board to answer any questions they may have regarding the waiver.

There shall be no discrimination against any person in respect to membership in this Local by reason of race, color, creed, national origin, sex, age or sexual orientation.
